Step Four: beat those Sunday blues with a sing-along or two

19 Oct

I hate Sundays, especially Sunday evenings. Instead of being a time of rest, it’s turned into that dreaded anticipation of waiting around for the week’s worries to begin. It’s a bit of a meh day to be honest, where you could spend time tying up loose ends, “Sunday’s my admin day”, but instead sink into that C.B.A mode.

So thank you television for blessing us with the X Factor results, followed by a little Towie and Girlfriends.

But thank you even more to Soho’s karaoke joint, Lucky Voice. My Sundays have just got that little bit better. To be honest, belting out your shoulda-coulda-woudas through the gift of music is a better remedy than a spoonful of sugar, and a nice run-up to the X Factor results.

The idea is you rent out a plush red (slightly red-light district-esque) room that can accommodate up to 15 friends and pay £10 a head for two hours, bar Thursday to Saturday when it’s a little more expensive.

But the top news is that on Sundays and Mondays you don’t pay room rental if just one member of your party is a Worthy Worker a.k.a. a do-gooder. To clarify, you need to get your hands on a doctor, nurse, teacher, policeman etc. So all you medics out there and Teach First peeps: represent!

You’ll have to pay a £20 non-refundable deposit, between the whole party, but this goes towards drinks and food. Each room comes with a dressing up chest filled with clown wigs and big drums to bang away on. But restrain yourself, there are cameras in each room which regrettably I found out after.

Some people say I have poor taste in music, but if you need a little inspiration here are my top 10 tunes:

  1. Waterloo/Thank You For The Music or anything by ABBA – there’s really no space to list them all
  2. Hero by Mariah Carey
  3. Angels by Robbie Williams
  4. Someone Like You by Adele
  5. Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson
  6. Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler
  7. Baby by Justin Bieber
  8. Don’t Stop Believing by Journey
  9. Flying without Wings by Westlife
  10. Summer Nights by Olivia Newton John & John Travolta
